Fall 2022 RV Trip (page 5)
On Tuesday November 1st we went to Borrego Springs where Mike and Cheryl have a retreat and spent the afternoon and evening with them. |
| Cheryl and Becky have a lot in common. |
In a section of the desert a philanthropist has paid to have a number of art pieces placed on his land. |
| This serpent is particularly effective in scale and how it undulates through the sand. |
A scorpion and cricket do battle. |
| We got a tour of the town and, of course, the library. |
This store sells artifacts and fossils collected by the owner. |
| At night, Mike showed me how he can use a blacklight to hunt for scorpions. |
Mike had work to do Wednesday so we headed out to Long Beach. We took a serpentine road to the top to see this view of Borrego Springs. |
| Thursday during the school year in a recession is a good time to visit a theme park so we went to Universal Studios. |
One of Becky's favorite shows "The Voice" is filmed there. |
| Becky is really into Harry Potter so this visit to the Wizarding World of Harry Potter was a thrill. |
Just board the Hogwarts Express and she goes from Muggle to Wizard. |
| Hagrid's house. |
Hogwarts castle. |
| Inside Hogwarts. These paintings can talk. |
We also visited the rest of Universal Studios. Because of our timing, we didn't have to wait in any lines. |
| It was very windy from the west so there was no smog in our view of Warner Bros studios. |
| Inside the Secret Life of Pets ride. |
| On Friday we gathered at the USC Health Sciences Campus for our homecoming. This is a portion of the class of 1987 that showed up for the breakfast. |
| After some meetings and lunch we got a tour of the campus. The small part we recognized is pictured here but the campus is about 10 times bigger than this. |
| The quad with the library to the left and McKibben in the back (that is where most of the year 1 &2 classes were held). |
| Fond memories including of Andrew running wild all over the quad. |
| The gross anatomy lab is similar to when we went but upgraded with computers and videos showing the ideal dissections. Many schools have gone away from cadavers but I'm glad to see USC continue this important teaching tool. |
| A group shot similar to the one we took at graduation. |
